During his career Chris Humphries has focused on a broad range of concepts from landscape to advertising (its impact, packaging, signage and mass consumerism), from ancient cultures to popular culture and autobiographical narrative. He also produced several series of works that were inspired by journeys to South East Asia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico and South America respectively.
In recent years his curiosity with the landscape has become honed to a more local perspective. Chris Humphries has always been interested in the idea of how, as inhabitants with in a landscape, we have tried to tame it and how it has the potential to subjugate the occupants within it. His current work reflects the many layers of tension this creates.
